    Temple of the Sacred tooth Relic

    The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left Canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined.     Ancient City of Polonnaruwa

    Polonnaruwa Kingdom or the Ancient city of Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka for three centuries between the 11th to 13th century after the destruction of Anuradhapura Kingdom in 993. It is located in north central province of Sri Lanka. Due to its archeological prominence and the ancient technological superiority UNESCO declared Polonnaruwa as a World Heritage in 1982 under the name of Ancient City of Polonnaruwa.     Sacred City of Anuradhapura

    The sacred city of Anuradhapura is the first ancient capital and one of the eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka. There is a vast network of ancient temples and monasteries spanning over 40 square kilometers. This city harbors the most extensive number of cultural landmarks within a single city. Many of these Buddhist temples have endured the test of time, remaining remarkably well-preserved for thousands of years. Revered as one of Sri Lanka’s most religious cities, Anuradhapura holds profound significance for Buddhist pilgrims. Among its prominent attractions are Ruwanweliseya, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Thuparamaya, Jatavanaramaya, Abhayagiriya, Lovamahapaya, Mirisawetiya, Lankaramaya, Samadhi Buddha, Mihintale, and Isurumuniya.

    Dambulla Cave Temple

    The Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the central part of Sri Lanka. It is one of the most well-preserved cave temple complexes in the country and holds significant cultural, historical, and religious importance. The temple complex consists of five main caves, each adorned with a multitude of statues and paintings depicting various aspects of Buddhism. The caves are carved into a massive granite outcrop and are situated around 160 meters above the surrounding plains. The interior of the caves features a stunning collection of over 150 Buddha statues in various sizes and poses.

    Sigiriya Rock Fortress

    Sigiriya Lion Rock, an UNESCO world heritage site, is situated in the northern part of Sri Lanka. It stands as a solitary rock plateau that rises abruptly from the surrounding plains. Sigiriya has a rich history that dates back to the 5th century AD. The rock is adorned with a series of frescoes depicting celestial maidens, known as the Sigiriya maidens or Apsaras. These frescoes showcase the artistic prowess of the ancient Sinhalese civilization and are a major highlight of the site. A smooth, polished wall made of brick and plaster runs alongside the frescoes. This Mirror Wall was originally so well-polished that the king could see his reflection in it.     Visit to Sinharaja Forest Reserve

    Unesco world heritage site, located in south-west Sri Lanka, Sinharaja is the country’s last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. More than 60% of the trees are endemic and many of them are considered rare.     Dan is a distinguished publisher and content creator dedicated to fostering genuine connections within the tea community by facilitating informed, captivating discussions among thought leaders. His career spans 50 years as a reporter, writer, editor, publisher, podcaster, and blogger. He has edited urban daily newspapers, published Animation Magazine, and served as CEO of California Beverage Publications. Over the past two decades, he co-founded Natural Food Magazine. He edited Specialty Coffee Retailer in San Francisco, re-launched Tea Magazine in 2012, and managed Bangkok-based STiR Tea & Coffee Magazine for six years. Dan's commitment is evident through his contributions to World Tea News and commentary on the Tea Biz Blog he launched in 2013. He successfully crowdfunded Tea Journey Magazine in 2016. Since 2021, he has hosted the Tea Biz Blog | Podcast, delivering 175 consecutive half-hour weekly episodes and reaching a quarter million tea professionals in 106 countries each year.

    Dr. Ebraham Afshar

    Managing Director of Ahmad Tea, Dr Ebrahim Afshar founded the company with his two brothers in 1986. Ahmad Tea is now sold in more than 80 countries worldwide. Its headquarters in the UK are supported by a state-of-the-art manufacturing hub in the UAE and factories/packing operations in China, Poland, Ukraine and of course, Sri Lanka.

    Ahmad Tea has contributed to charitable projects in 20+ countries. For example in India the company supports early years life through Children in Need India in Assam. In Sri Lanka we aim to improve the health of women in the tea gardens by providing female sanitation and better access to cancer screening in order to prevent them having to be admitted to the national state cancer hospital Razavi Medical Centre, which Ahmad Tea built in 2010.

    Dr Afshar has been at the forefront of all aspects of the company – commercial and charitable – since its inception.

    Dr. Ravi Fernando

    Dr Ravi FERNANDO is an Alumni of the University of Cambridge having completed both a Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable business in 2008 and Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership in 2014. He completed the Advanced Management Program at the INSEAD Business School (France) and is an Executive in Residence since 2010. His career with Multinationals spanned 1981-2003 with Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser, Smithkline Beecham International, MAS covering Africa, Middle East and Asia. He serves on the Boards of Dilmah Ceylon Tea Company, Aitken Spence Plantations Ltd, Aitken Spence Hotels Ltd, Melstacorp PLC, UN Global Compact, LOLC Holdings, Ceylon Graphene Technologies Ltd.

    Gundega Silniece

    Gundega Silniece, currently head of Latvia Tea Association, running tea wholesale, 3 tearooms and Tea and coffee studio in Riga. Last 10 years practicing as tea sommelier, arranging trainings and masterclasses for restaurants, cafes and tealovers, mostly focusing on tea pairing and mixology. National organizer of the Tea Masters Cup in Latvia from 2017. From the year 2021 started working as a local judge in the Tea Masters Cup competition. Currently developing a booking platform and mobile app for tea tourism and tea related education called TeaTeaMe. Passionate that tea education and tea tourism can solve many of the problems of the tea industry. By educating the final consumer and making them more aware of their tea consumption habits, it is possible to create a positive change in the evaluation of the contribution of tea growers and producers and in the appropriate remuneration. Passionate for supporting the role of tea culture in the hospitality sector and popularizing tea tourism and tea related education, both - online and offline. Working on the ESTA for the past two years has inspired me to develop ESTA cooperation with tea producing countries and joint efforts to raise the popularity of specialty tea culture.

    Ms. Ines Kaempfer

    Ines Kaempfer has been deeply engaged in child rights, labour rights issues and business and human rights in the manufacturing and agriculture industries in China and Asia for over 15 years.

    As the CEO of The Centre for Child Rights and Business (formerly CCR CSR), a social enterprise that helps businesses improve their direct and indirect impact on children, Ines leads strategic design and implementation of overall operations and stakeholder engagement, working closely with major multi-national clients and partners around the world.

    Mr. Aadith Moorthy

    Aadith Moorthy is the founder and CEO of Boomitra, a leading carbon marketplace working with farmers and ranchers to mitigate climate change through improved agricultural practices. Aadith holds graduate degrees from Stanford and two bachelors degrees from the California Institute of Technology. He founded Boomitra while pursuing a double major in materials science and computer science, with a focus on AI. In 2023, Boomitra was awarded the Earthshot Prize, likened to winning an ‘environmental Oscar’. As a recognized thought leader in the climate and agricultural tech space, Aadith has spoken at several events, including the McKinsey & Company COP27 Panel, World AgriTech Summit, and U.S.-Africa Leaders' Summit. He was also featured in the 2024 Forbes 30 under 30 list.

    Aadith has been named a Stanford Knight-Hennessy Scholar, a Barry Goldwater Scholar, a Henry Ford II Scholar, and an American Society of Metals Scholar.

    Ms. Shabnam Webber

    For almost two decades, Shabnam Weber owned and operated her own tea company in Toronto, Canada. With retail stores and a wholesale business, her company was one of the first of its kind in Toronto. Her passion and love of tea led her to become involved with the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada as a Director, sitting on several committees, most notably the Education Committee where she wrote the Tea Sommelier® program. Shabnam divested from her business’ and took the position of President of the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada in 2018. She has transformed the association through the programs and resources it offers members and become an industry leader. She is the Canadian representative on the UN FAO’s Intergovernmental Group on Tea (IGG/Tea) and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the group. She sits on several working groups of the IGG/Tea, is Co-Chair of the Advocacy pilar, Vice-Chair of the working group on Smallholders and co-Chair of the working group on Tea and Health. Shabnam values the diversity offered by all parts of the tea industry, both in Canada and beyond and focuses always on the bigger picture. Shabnam is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an Honours degree in Political Science and holds a post-graduate diploma in Psychology.
