    Alan is the founder / CEO of ProfilePrint, and the inventor of its patented A.I. Food Fingerprint Technology. Before starting ProfilePrint, he was the Asst. CEO of IHDpay, an investment group focusing on Digital KYC based in Hong Kong. Prior, his professional experiences include heading M&A / investment in the United Kingdom, General Manager South China and Assistant to Group CEO President at CapitaLand. He was a PhD candidate in Operational Research at INSEAD, completed the post-graduate management program at Tsinghua University and graduated with French Singapore Double Engineering degrees (1st Class honours) from Ecole Centrale Paris and National University of Singapore under a government scholarship.

    Ines Kaempfer has been deeply engaged in child rights, labour rights issues and business and human rights in the manufacturing and agriculture industries in China and Asia for over 15 years.

    As the CEO of The Centre for Child Rights and Business (formerly CCR CSR), a social enterprise that helps businesses improve their direct and indirect impact on children, Ines leads strategic design and implementation of overall operations and stakeholder engagement, working closely with major multi-national clients and partners around the world.

    Ms. Gundega Silniece

     

    Gundega Silniece, currently head of Latvia Tea Association, running tea wholesale, 3 tearooms and Tea and coffee studio in Riga. Last 10 years practicing as tea sommelier, arranging trainings and masterclasses for restaurants, cafes and tealovers, mostly focusing on tea pairing and mixology. National organizer of the Tea Masters Cup in Latvia from 2017.

    From the year 2021 started working as a local judge in the Tea Masters Cup competition. Currently developing a booking platform and mobile app for tea tourism and tea related education called TeaTeaMe.

    Passionate that tea education and tea tourism can solve many of the problems of the tea industry. By educating the final consumer and making them more aware of their tea consumption habits, it is possible to create a positive change in the evaluation of the contribution of tea growers and producers and in the appropriate remuneration.

    Passionate for supporting the role of tea culture in the hospitality sector and popularizing tea tourism and tea related education, both - online and offline. Working on the ESTA for the past two years has inspired me to develop ESTA cooperation with tea producing countries and joint efforts to raise the popularity of specialty tea culture.

    Mr. Tom Franks

     

    Since his appointment Tom has used his long experience as a producer to bring together all elements of the tea supply chain for the benefit of everyone that works in the industry. This is being done at both an international level, but also country by country to address some of the most difficult issues facing the sector. No one party can resolve all of these issues but a willing partnership of producers, packers, retailers and governments can make significant strides for the benefit of all those working in the industry.

    Profile of Mr. Niraj de Mel

    Niraj de Mel, the present Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board needs no introduction having been associated with the tea industry for over 45 years. He has been a tea broker, buyer, administrator and mentor.

    During his career, he has held many top level positions in the trade as well as in Tea related associations.

    This is his second stint at the helm of the Tea Board having held the position back in 2004 - 2005.

    With a MBA in Business Management, Johann has a 30-year career spanning the Packaging, Food and Tea Export Industries where he managed both local and regional roles. He currently overlooks the Innovation, Sales and Marketing divisions at Polydime Plastics Industries that has its footprint in Sri Lanka and India. His passion is the development of “Sustainable Packaging” which has earned him a position on the board of the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging.

    This has taken him to many local and global forums as resource person that include the United Nations, Asian Packaging Foundation and The World Packaging Organisation.

    Mr. James Mackay

     

    James Mackay leads the delivery & strategy for Pepsi Lipton's Sustainability, Quality, Technical, and Productivity programmes.
    Pepsi Lipton is the 30+ year JV between Unilever and PepsiCo and global leader in Ice Tea, spanning 60+ markets and with sales approaching 4 billion litres of its Lipton, Brisk & Pure Leaf brands.

    In his 34th year working for Unilever James has worked across R&D and Supply Chain in both its Hot Tea and Ice Tea businesses, with International assignments to Indonesia, Japan and Dubai. He has an MSc in Food Safety & Quality.

    James has responsibility for driving the JVs Sustainability workstreams of Net Zero, Sourcing, Nutrition, Packaging Transformation, Water Efficiency & Governance.
    With a passion for the Power of Tea and the 5th generation of his family to work in the Sri Lankan tea trade, James has a special focus on Regenerative Agriculture, Sustainable Sourcing and De-Forestation free tea programmes.

    Mr. Bharat Arulsamy

     

    Barath Arullsamy currently serves as the Chairman of the Plantation Human Development Trust; A key institution and a tripartite body which is comprised of the Government of Sri Lanka, Regional Plantation Companies and the Trade Unions in the Plantation sector. The trust serves as non-profit which is dedicated to develop the livelihood standard of the plantation sector workers in areas such as housing, education, water access, health and infrastructure.

    Being the youngest person to ever hold the chair, Barath distingusihes himself as policy entrepreneur and a legal professional, promoting the sustainability of the tea industry
    Hailing from the Indian origin community, who were brought down to Sri Lanka by the colonialists as workers for the coffee and tea plantations, Barath has come a long way to prove that persistence and undeterred vision would free the shackles of an individual's limitation and the community as a whole.

    In the current context, Barath is ambitious to safeguard and promote decent work policies among the plantation companies and protect the human capital which is a key factor in the sustenance of the tea industry. Championing the "tea partner" model as ideal management system, he aims to bringing inclusiveness and conscious capitalism in the world renowned tea industry; Ceylon tea trade.

    Mr. Aadith Moorthy

     

    Aadith Moorthy is the founder and CEO of Boomitra, a leading carbon marketplace working with farmers and ranchers to mitigate climate change through improved agricultural practices. Aadith holds graduate degrees from Stanford and two bachelors degrees from the California Institute of Technology.

    He founded Boomitra while pursuing a double major in materials science and computer science, with a focus on AI. In 2023, Boomitra was awarded the Earthshot Prize, likened to winning an ‘environmental Oscar’. As a recognized thought leader in the climate and agricultural tech space, Aadith has spoken at several events, including the McKinsey & Company COP27 Panel, World AgriTech Summit, and U.S.-Africa Leaders' Summit. He was also featured in the 2024 Forbes 30 under 30 list.

    Aadith has been named a Stanford Knight-Hennessy Scholar, a Barry Goldwater Scholar, a Henry Ford II Scholar, and an American Society of Metals Scholar.

    Dr. Mao Limin

     

    Mao Limin, Ph.D. in Tea Science, Certified Business Executive, Senior Tea Taster, is currently the Director of the Tea Committee of China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products (CFNA), President of the Zhejiang Tea Industry Association, and Chairman of Zhejiang Dr. Tea Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

    He has been in the tea business for over 32 years, and once represented China as a joint secretary in the ISO Tea Standardization Organization. He is the first person engaged in organic tea production, processing and export in China, and the first person to bring modern matcha cultivation and production technology back to China from Japan.

    Dr. Keerthi Mohotti

     

    A BSc and PhD holder from the Universities of Peradeniya and Reading, UK respectively, a Fellow and Chartered member of Institute of Biology Sri Lanka, has R&D collaborations with leading academic and research institutes in USA, UK, China, India, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Iran and Israel, has over 120 publications, 625 citations, h-index of 9 and Presidential and many local and foreign prestigious awards on phytonematology, sustainable plant protection, biological control, biodiversity, organic, precised, regenerative, energy efficient and responsible farming, occupational health, food standards and environmental medicine.

    A visiting lecturer at universities and post graduate institutes, a technical consultant in UNDP, GEF, WB, FAO, IFOAM and ITC and has served the UNDP GEF SGP Sri Lanka program as the national steering committee chairman over 10 years.

    His 33 year technical contribution is remarkable at FAO IGG on Tea, ISO, UNEP and IFOAM meetings, policy making, M&E, steering and standard setting committees to uplift globle product, environment and social standards.

    Dr. M. S. Anuruddha

     

    Dr.M.S Anuruddha, the Director General of the Sri Lanka Tea Board was appointed recently and having over 20 years of experience in the fields of Finance and Accountancy
    Business Administration and Public Procurement. He has been serving as a SLAS Officer-(Grade I).

    During his career, he served as an Accountant in the Provincial Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Livestock Development, Department of Posts, Municipal Council,
    Dehiwala/Mount Lavinia, as Chief Internal Auditor at SL Army, Senior Consultant – (Finance Public Procurement), SLIDA and prior to this he served as the Chief Accountant at Ministry of Technology.

    Dr.Anuruddha holds a Ph.D. in Finance & Accounting, Masters in Economics, Business Administration, PGD in International Relations, a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management, Diplomas in Public Procurement & Administration and is a Fellow Member of Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy, UK, SL Institute of Chartered Accountants, Australian Computer Society & Chartered Institute of Supplies and Purchasing, UK.

    Mr. Ming Xie

     

    Xie Ming, graduated from Hunan Normal University in Russian language major.
    Engaged in tea industry since 1998
    Established Hunan East Land Tea Co., Ltd. in 2009

    Shanavas Bavu

     

    Shanavas Bavu is a founding director of Innopolis Bio Innovations Pvt Ltd, based in Kochi, India. Innopolis is a consulting and turnkey engineering firm in process and product development solutions for botanicals, spices, tea and coffee extraction. Shanavas hold an engineering degree and masters in international business. He has previously served as the Head of New Products Division at the spice extraction major - Synthite Industries Ltd, India and as Territory Manager for South Asia and Middle East for Flavourtech Pty Ltd, an Australian process technology supplier. With extensive experience in setting up extraction plants globally with several technological innovations, Shanavas has been pivotal in developing new product lines in the Flavour & Fragrance domain and viable novel ingredient applications. He is also a trained sensory panelist and has in-depth exposure to the global botanical ingredient market network, bringing a comprehensive understanding of the industry from both technical and commercial prospects.

    Mr. Arutselvan Arumugam

    Country Lead & Program Consultant (Sri Lanka)

    Fairtrade Network of Asia and Pacific Producers

    Arm Arutselvan began his career in the tea plantation sector in 1998, accumulating 17 years of experience in administration and accounting. He has been instrumental in achieving renowned quality and ethical certifications and played a significant role in securing awards and accreditations for the plantations where he served, particularly in the area of quality assurance and sustainability.

    Before joining the global Fairtrade system, he served as the Country National Network Coordinator for the Fairtrade Producers Association of Sri Lanka (Presently known as Fairtrade NAPP Sri Lanka), managing and facilitating the association's overall functions for seven years.

    In November 2015, he joined Fairtrade Asia and Pacific (NAPP) and has since held various positions. Currently, he is responsible for Tea and Flower commodities in his role as Country Lead/Program Consultant for Hired Labour Organizations.

    Arutselvan has notably contributed to establishing the South Asia Fairtrade Regional Tea Network. He possesses extensive knowledge in standards and compliance, capacity building skills, and B2B support. Additionally, he is highly experienced in project management, including Fairtrade Premium and international donor projects.

    Mr. Klaus Peters

    Born in Soltau, Germany in 1963. Married, 3 children.

    Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hannover, Germany.

    Moved to Italy in 1994 covering positions in Sales and Marketing within international groups within Machinery Industry.

    Since 2002 with the IMA Group starting as Marketing Director of the IMA Tea & Herbs Division.

    Since 2019 managing a consistent part of the Food Sector of the IMA Group including sectors:

    • Tea (Tea & Herbs Division, RI Division and MaiSa)
    • Coffee (Coffee Division, Petroncini and Tecmar)
    • Flexible Packaging (Ilapak, Delta Systems, Record and Eurosicma)
    • Dairy (Corazza and Benhil)
    • Confectionery (Gima Division)

    Mr. Nadeem Ahmed

     

    Mr Nadeem Ahmed is a serial entrepreneur. Under his leadership, Global Tea and Commodities Ltd have grown from a small start up with 2 employees in 1991 to over 4500 people today.

    Born in Kolkata, India, and after graduating in Economics and Finance from St Xavier College, Kolkata, Nadeem set out to start and grow the company in distant UK, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Somalia, Sudan and other countries.

    In the last 25 years, Global Tea has made 16 acquisitions ranging from Brooke Bond Tea, Red Mountain Coffee (from Unilever UK) to the acquisition of over 50,000 Acres of Tea, Coffee and Macadamia nuts plantations from the British Government (CDC) in Tanzania and Malawi, 8000 Acres of Makandi Tea and Coffee (ex Lonhro) to Typhoo Tea Ltd (ex Premier Foods Ltd), an iconic British Brand acquired in partnership with Apeejay Surrendra Ltd.

    Value addition has been the focus of the company and Kericho Gold and Baraka Chai in Kenya are now the second largest packers of tea in Africa. The company is steadily growing towards acquiring the largest market share of the UK private label business while Kericho Gold has over 70% of the Premium Branded Market in Africa.

    In 2005 Nadeem set up the first tea export processing zone in the African tea industry and Gold Crown Foods (EPZ) Ltd  was formed in Mombasa. This is today the largest exporter of value added tea from Kenya with exports of over 15 million kgs which is over 90% of all Kenyan valued added tea exports. During the same year, Global Tea was conferred with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development. In addition, Global Tea is also the largest Independent Bulk tea exporter from Kenya with over 60 million KGs exported in 2017 beat Unilever to no 2 position.

    The coffee and Macadamia nut plantations in Malawi are now 100% export oriented units, with state of the art processing factories exporting to Japan, USA, Europe, China, Taiwan, Korea etc.

    The group sales are in excess of USD$300 million and is amongst the largest tea companies in the world.

    A BSc and PhD holder from the Universities of Peradeniya and Reading, UK respectively, a Fellow and Chartered member of Institute of Biology Sri Lanka, has R&D collaborations with leading academic and research institutes in USA, UK, China, India, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Iran and Israel, has over 120 publications, 625 citations, h-index of 9 and Presidential and many local and foreign prestigious awards on phytonematology, sustainable plant protection, biological control, biodiversity, organic, precised, regenerative, energy efficient and responsible farming, occupational health, food standards and environmental medicine.

    A visiting lecturer at universities and post graduate institutes, a technical consultant in UNDP, GEF, WB, FAO, IFOAM and ITC and has served the UNDP GEF SGP Sri Lanka program as the national steering committee chairman over 10 years.

    His 33 year technical contribution is remarkable at FAO IGG on Tea, ISO, UNEP and IFOAM meetings, policy making, M&E, steering and standard setting committees to uplift globle product, environment and social standards.

    Mr. Lionel Herath

    Mr. Lionel Herath counts over 40 years of Managerial experience in Plantation and Manufacturing sectors. Currently, he functions as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Factory Owners Association. He is a Director of the Sri Lanka Tea Board and a Committee member of the Colombo Tea Traders’ Association.

    Mr. Suranga Herath

    Suranga Herath, CEO of English Tea Shop Organic, is an advocate of building purpose-led businesses that put sustainability at the core of their strategy. English Tea Shop was founded to address the pressing social challenge of wealth and knowledge inequality through innovative practices like Creating Shared Value and Open Book Management. Suranga’s vision fosters a transformative organic tea business empowering organic farming and employee-ownership. Suranga worked closely with peers in the Sri Lankan tea industry over the last few years in developing a national sustainability framework for tea.

    Some of his academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Colombo and an MBA from the Postgraduate Institute of Management at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Additionally, he is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, having completed the Owner/President Management program. Suranga also holds a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership from the University of Cambridge.

    Dr. Pradeep Uluwaduge

    Having counted over twenty years of versatile experiences in the fields of Human Resource Management and Development, Legal & Corporate Affairs and Plantations, both in Sri Lanka and overseas, Dr. Pradeep Uluwaduge currently performs as the Executive Chairman of Browns Plantations, the plantation cluster under LOLC Group which operates in Sri Lanka, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and China. Also, he performs as the Group Chief HR Officer of LOLC Group overseeing Human Resource Management and Development functions of the entire Group covering both local and foreign operations. Further, he serves on a number of boards of other subsidiary companies under LOLC Group.

    Dr. Uluwaduge obtained his Ph.D in Management and Business Studies at the Faculty of Management and Finance of the University of Colombo. He also completed his Master of Laws (LL.M) degree and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Colombo. He took oaths as an Attorney-at-Law from the Supreme Court in Sri Lanka in 2003.

    Dr. Uluwaduge is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA), UK and a member of Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA), USA. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the UK and is a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) from the Australian Federation University. He is a life member of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and a Member of the prestigious Singapore Academy of Law and a professional member of the Singapore Human Resource Institute.

    He was awarded as the Best under 40 Business Leader by the Alumni Association of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) in 2016 and he served as a Council Member of the National Chamber of Commerce from 2017 to 2023. He is a visiting faculty for the MBA programme, University of Colombo and a visiting supervisor for M.Phil/Ph.D Programme of the Business School, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). Further, he has made scholarly contributions in publishing research articles in national and international journals. He is passionate about gardening, shooting sport and collecting antiques.

    Thomas Frank

    In 2023 Tom was appointed Chair of the Board of Directors at ETP (Ethical Tea Partnership) - tea’s global membership organisation - catalysing systemic change to benefit everybody who works in tea. Prior to this Tom was the Group Chief Executive of Camellia Plc, the world's largest private grower of tea with estates in India, Bangladesh, Kenya and Malawi, and co-chair of the Global Tea Coalition.

    Since his appointment Tom has used his long experience as a producer to bring together all elements of the tea supply chain for the benefit of everyone that works in the industry. This is being done at both an international level, but also country by country to address some of the most difficult issues facing the sector. No one party can resolve all of these issues but a willing partnership of producers, packers, retailers and governments can make significant strides for the benefit of all those working in the industry.

    Dr. Madhuri Nanda

    Dr. Nanda is an environmental and sustainability professional working for last two decades in diverse fields, including climate change, sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, policy analysis, sustainability reporting, auditing, management systems certification, compliances, and environment impact assessment studies. She has worked on environmental and social issues in diverse geographies, including South Asia, South-East Asia and Germany, which enriches her exposure to domestic and international business cultures.

    Currently, Dr. Nanda provides leadership and manages the strategic planning and implementation of all activities of Rainforest Alliance in South Asia, mainly India and Sri Lanka. She did her doctorate in Environment Science with her principal field studies undertaken in Sri Lanka.

    Mr. Shreedharan Chandran

    Mr. Shreedharan Chandran is the President of The United Planters’ Association of Southern India (UPASI), an Apex Organisation of the Plantation Industry consisting of Tea, Rubber, Coffee and Cardamom Plantations in the three southern States of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

    Mr.Shreedharan is a Director with the Woodbriar Group, having tea gardens in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal with interests in other plantation crops, Insurance and Hospitality. Woodbriar group produces over 15 million kgs of tea per annum. A graduate of Mechanical Engineering program from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, Mr.Shreedharan held several key positions in the Planting Associations in Southern India before being elected as President of UPASI. He has been in the Executive Committee of UPASI since 2006- 07. He was the Chairman of Planters’ Association of Tamil Nadu for the year 2010-11 & 2011-12. He held the position of Convener of the Golden Leaf India Awards: Southern Tea Competition conceived by the Tea Board of India and UPASI from 2010-11 to 2013-14, and Chairman of UPASI Tea Committee for the period 2019-20 to 2021-22. He is also Past Chairman of Coimbatore Tea Trade Association.

    Mr. Nicola Ragno

    Born in Mariano Comense – Como – Italy in 1976, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2000. He began working in the Oil & Gas industry as a Junior Mechanical Engineer in the Foster Wheeler machinery department.

    Move to Research and Development; first in the Automotive sector where he worked for Seatek S.p.A.. Here he dealt with the development of racing marine engines; then in the Tissue sector where he works for Novatex Italia S.p.A.. Here he dealt with the optimization and development of machines and lines for the production of agricultural net wrap made of HDPE.

    He has been working in the Packaging sector for 18 years. The first 12 years in secondary packaging for Cama Group where he joined as Project Manager, then became R&D manager and finally moved to Technical Management.

    He has now been with IMA for 6 years, where he works as Technical Director and Research and Development Manager for the IMA Ilapak division, a company in the IMA group that deals with the design of HFFS machines and lines. Also under his responsibility is the IMA OpenLab, a research and development network of technological laboratories and testing areas, dedicated to the research on sustainable materials, technologies and production optimisation processes.

    Niraj de Mel

    Niraj de Mel, the present Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board needs no introduction having been associated with the tea industry for over 45 years. He has been a tea broker, buyer, administrator and mentor.
    During his career, he has held many top level positions in the trade as well as in Tea related associations.
    This is his second stint at the helm of the Tea Board having held the position back in 2004 - 2005.

    Dr. Sharon Hall

    Dr Sharon Hall is the Chief Executive of the United Kingdom Tea & Infusions Association (UKTIA), a role she took on in 2018. Her previous roles include Director General of both the Potato Processors’ Association (PPA) and the Snack, Nut & Crisp Manufacturers’ Association (SNACMA), where she gained extensive experience of high-level stakeholder engagement, strategic leadership, communications and issues management. She is also President of Tea & Herbal Infusions Europe (THIE) and chairs THIE’s EU Green Deal Steering Group and the Plastics & Packaging Working Group. Dr Hall also represents THIE on environmental and sustainability matters at FoodDrinkEurope.

    Dr Hall had the honour of chairing of the United Nations, FAO-Intergovernmental Group on Tea (2022-2024).
    Dr Hall has an honours degree in Applied Biology, a Masters in Science Communication from UWE Bristol, and a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (Plant Science).

    Prof. Buddhi Marambe

    Professor Buddhi Marambe has more than 38 years of experience as an academic attached to the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Peradeniya. He was acclaimed with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the International Weed Science Society (IWSS) in 2022, and Presidential Awards and National Research Council (NRC) Merit Awards in Sri Lanka for scientific research in Climate Change Adaptation, Food Security and Weed Science. Professor Marambe was the Lead Government Negotiator in Agriculture at the Conference of Parties at UNFCCC for the past 12 years. While being an academic, he has served as a non-executive member on boards of several private sector organizations and the councils/executive committees of many professional associations. Professor Marambe has provided his services as a consultant to the World Bank, ADB, EU, UNDP, FAO, WFP, UNEP, ICRAF, and CIAT on issues related to agriculture and climate change at national and international levels.

    Ms. Kristina Tucker

    Kristina Richens Tucker believes in the beauty and power of the leaf. In her role at The Republic of Tea, her mission is to educate and inspire people throughout the world about tea, its varieties, origins, rituals and health benefits.

    Kristina is responsible for overseeing the internal and external communications, public relations and philanthropic efforts for The Republic of Tea. She also serves as the company’s spokesperson.

    Kristina brings over 25 years of experience to her role. She began with the company in January 2003 as Minister of West Commerce and was promoted to Minister of Education in August 2007, where she developed the first, much-appreciated Ambassador (broker) Training Manual and completed the first tea educational videos as seen on YouTube. She was then promoted to Minister of Commerce, where she is responsible for management of the national sales team, international sales development, sales systems, analysis and new business development and initiatives. In 2021, she was promoted to Vice President of Sales and Communications.

    Prior to joining The Republic of Tea, Kristina was National Sales Manager, Natural Foods, for Just Desserts, Inc., Oakland, Calif. She also worked for Allegro Coffee Company in Boulder, Col., a subsidiary of Whole Foods Markets, Inc.

    Kristina travels extensively, counting the finest tea and herb growing countries of the world – including China, India, Sri Lanka, Japan and South Africa – among her many destinations. She also holds a certificate of completion from Front Range Herbal Institute and Specialty Tea Certification program. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Delaware, and in 2020 obtained a master’s degree in strategic communication from the prestigious American University in Washington D.C.

    In 2018, Kristina was elected to the Board of Trustees of the American Herbal Products Association and in 2022, she was elected as Chair of the Board of Trustees. She served on the Demeter USA Biodynamic Trade Committee. She also served as the Board President of Fresh Start, a Denver, Colo. non-profit, from 2010 to 2016.

    In addition to tea and travel, she enjoys fitness, sustainable living and cooking. Kristina resides in Denver, Colorado and starts each day with a cup of Golden Yunnan or Double Green Matcha Tea.

Prior to moving to Asia, he was a Partner in the Financial Institutions Group in McKinsey’s London office and led the EMEA Transaction Banking Practice. He's Leading efforts unlock financing for Bio DIversity enhancement and preservation in Sri Lanka. Led AI transformations for major conglomerates in Sri Lanka. Overall partner in charge of procurement transformation at major players in SL Apparel industry. Led effort to develop SME sales and credit operations strategy for one of the largest banks in Sri Lanka. Led the effort to develop a holistic country level digital strategy for Sri Lanka in 2018. Designing and implementing an end to end digital transformation for the commercial banking journeys of one of the UK’s largest Banks.

    Developing 20 country EMEA wide corporate and transaction banking digital platform and product strategy for leading global universal bank. Developing global strategy for one of the largest digital wallet providers and identifying priority themes for European market. Redesigned operating model for top global technology provider for electronic payment transactions and value-added digital services.     Ganaka has an MBA with honours from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and a bachelor's degree with Honors in Economics from the University of Nottingham. Prior to joining McKinsey, Ganaka was a Transaction Banking Product Specialist and Relationship Manager at Citibank as well as a programme manager at Yahoo

    Mr. Shiraz Akbarally

    Shiraz Akbarally is an executive director at Akbar brothers pvt Ltd, the worlds premier exporter of Ceylon tea.
    He holds a bachelor of engineering with honours from the university of Melbourne, and a MBA from the INSEAD Business school.
    Part of the 4th generation of family in the tea trade, he leads the group efforts in automation, technology and sustainability. Akbar brothers group has continuously strived to be the leader in human and environmental friendly business, this includes their facility being the first in Asia to be certified as 100% Carbon Inset.
    in addition to his role within the company, Shiraz also sits on the board of other companies including sunshine healthcare, cleanco Lanka limited, Flexiprint and ethical extracts.

    Mr. Sebastian Michaelis

    Mr. Sebastian Michaelis is the Head of Tea for the International division of Tata Consumers Products. With 20 years of tea trade experience, Sebastian oversees the sourcing, supply chain and product development for the Tetley brand globally and has spent a significant part of his career based in Kenya, Malawi and India. Tetley has a 185 year history with hundreds of products enjoyed by millions people across the globe.

    Sebastian is responsible for sustainable sourcing for the Tetley brand and has worked extensively with the Ethical Tea Partnership, Rainforest Alliance and other partners to support a thriving, socially just and environmentally tea sector.

    As a Master Tea Taster responsible for overseeing quality for Tetley and other brands his tastebuds were insured for £1m by his company.

    Dr. Roshan Rajadurai

    Roshan Rajadurai joined the Plantation Sector in 1983 and counts over 40 years of planting experience. He started off as an Assistant Manager at Dayagama West Estate, Agarapathana in JEDB and with privatization in 1992 he joined Kelani Valley Plantations of Hayleys and was Group Manger of Pedro Estate, Nuwara Eliya in 2002 when he joined Kahawatta Plantations of Dilmah as General Manager and was Director CEO from 2008 to 2012. He re-joined Hayleys in 2013 as Hayleys Group Management Committee Member for Plantations Sector and is responsible for Kelani Valley, Talawakelle and Horana Plantations.

    Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda

    Rohan Pethiyagoda, is among Sri Lanka’s best-known biodiversity scientists. He is the author of eight books and more than 100 scientific papers in international scientific journals. His research, which has been widely recognized internationally, led to the discovery of some 100 new species of animals endemic to Sri Lanka.

    A Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, he remains the only Asian to have won the Linnean Medal for Zoology since its inception in 1888. He is also a winner of the Rolex Award for Enterprise for his work on montane forest restoration. He has served as Advisor on Environment and Natural resources to the Government of Sri Lanka, as Deputy Chair of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, as a trustee of the International Trust for Zoological Nomenclature, as a member of the World Commission on National Parks, as a member of the Global Amphibian Specialist Group, and as a research associate of the Australian Museum in Sydney.

    He has also served extensively in the public service in Sri Lanka, as Director, Biomedical Engineering Services of the Ministry of Health, Chairman of the Water Resources Board, and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board.

    Mr. Dilhan Fernando

    Dilhan C. Fernando, the Chairman of Dilmah Tea, is the younger son of Dilmah Founder, Merrill J. Fernando. The names of Dilhan and his brother Malik form the 'Dilmah' brand, the first producer owned tea brand.

    Mirroring his father's devotion to tea, Dilhan's mission is the fulfilment of the pledges his father made in the 1950s, as a young Tea man with a big dream. His commitment was to resist the commoditization that devastated a tea industry that was previously characterized by small, and passionate family enterprises. Merrill sought to bring quality and authenticity back to tea, and secondly, whilst doing so, to share the success of that business with the underprivileged.

    Dilhan is the Director of the Dilmah School of Tea www.schooloftea.org, the first international school of tea, with sessions in Colombo, and in partnership with the Institute Paul Bocuse, also in Ecully, France. His desire to share the pleasure in tea with a new generation of tea drinkers saw the birth of the t-Series, designer gourmet teas www.teatimerocks.com and an entirely contemporary approach to a traditional beverage.  He is described by Herve Fleury, Director of the Institute Paul Bocuse as, "a man who is passionate, totally supple in his expertise, simple and delicate in his approach and his words. In the very image of tea."

    In addition to his responsibilities in tea, Dilhan also manages the humanitarian and environmental outcomes of Dilmah. These are the fulfilment of his family's commitment to making business a matter of human service. The MJF Charitable Foundation www.mjffoundation.org and Dilmah Conservation www.dilmahconservation.org utilise revenue from the global sales of Dilmah in implementing humanitarian and conservation projects in Sri Lanka. The MJF Foundation is one of the largest charitable foundations in Sri Lanka and has changed the lives of thousands of underprivileged people, working in the tea sector and in the wider community. Dilmah Conservation operates on a similar principle, using revenue from Dilmah to implement conservation, environmental education, habitat restoration projects and promote sustainability. Dilhan currently chairs the Biodiversity Sri Lanka Platform which was pioneered by Dilmah Conservation together with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). Dilhan is the Chairman of the United Nations Global Compact in Sri Lanka, a corporate sustainability initiative by the UN.

    Mr. Rajith De Mel

    Mr. Mitsunori Saeki

    Mick Saeki is the CEO of Mitsui Norin Co., Ltd., the largest importer of black tea in Japan. After graduating from Waseda University, he began his professional career at Mitsui & Co., Ltd. in 1994. With over 30 years of professional and managerial experience at Mitsui & Co., Ltd., he has managed numerous food operations, primarily in the food ingredients business domain, including his first CEO role at Bussan Food Materials Co., Ltd in 2015. He has also held key roles in the HR and corporate planning divisions at Mitsui's headquarters. He was appointed CEO of Mitsui Norin in June 2020 and continues to serve in this position. Simultaneously, he served as chairman of the Japan Tea Association from April 2022 to March 2024. A native Japanese, he has accumulated seven years of international experience in China, directing various food business assignments for Mitsui.

    Ms. Shabnam Webber

    For almost two decades, Shabnam Weber owned and operated her own tea company in Toronto, Canada. With retail stores and a wholesale business, her company was one of the first of its kind in Toronto. Her passion and love of tea led her to become involved with the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada as a Director, sitting on several committees, most notably the Education Committee where she wrote the Tea Sommelier® program. Shabnam divested from her business’ and took the position of President of the Tea and Herbal Association of Canada in 2018. She has transformed the association through the programs and resources it offers members and become an industry leader. She is the Canadian representative on the UN FAO’s Intergovernmental Group on Tea (IGG/Tea) and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the group. She sits on several working groups of the IGG/Tea, is Co-Chair of the Advocacy pilar, Vice-Chair of the working group on Smallholders and co-Chair of the working group on Tea and Health. Shabnam values the diversity offered by all parts of the tea industry, both in Canada and beyond and focuses always on the bigger picture. Shabnam is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an Honours degree in Political Science and holds a post-graduate diploma in Psychology.
